{"id":36,"date":"2009-12-12T17:32:52","date_gmt":"2009-12-13T01:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.foundationsoffreedom.org\/?page_id=36"},"modified":"2010-05-16T17:09:52","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T01:09:52","slug":"the-educational-connection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.foundationsoffreedom.org\/?page_id=36","title":{"rendered":"Educational Connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>The benefits of participating in <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Foundations of Freedom <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>are far-reaching and numerous.\u00a0 This competition model:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Is based on successful active-learning formats.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Meets the requirements of state and national content standards.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Integrates the study of history with other disciplines, including the performing arts, social sciences, math, language arts, and geography.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Supports professional development, historical scholarship, and effective teaching methods and techniques.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Offers resources and curriculum aids in supplementing classroom instruction.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Encourages interaction with historians, artists, legal experts, religious leaders, and politicians through academic discovery of original documents and significant events in historical perspective.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Involves families and communities in support of education and the protection of religious freedoms and First Amendment rights.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Educational Worthiness<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>The following three statements define the educational worthiness of<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span> Foundations of Freedom<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>One: <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Foundations of Freedom <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>supports teachers and student learning by meeting local, state, and national educational content standards as teachers integrate and design their instructional lessons\/activities. (You may receive a complete list of all national and state content standards by contacting us and requesting a copy.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Two: <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Foundations of Freedom <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>is both legally and educationally appropriate for use in a public classroom setting for student instruction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Three: <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Foundations of Freedom <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>is aligned with national strands in history, performing arts, and literature curriculums. Each particular student entry (presentation) must meet American history, civic government, or world history standards unique to each entry.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Resources<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>The following is a partial and diverse list of Internet resources for teaching about religion that may assist teachers and students in their development and understanding of how religion has affected American history.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>California Department of Education. Model standards-based lessons are provided online for grades K-12.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>Constitutional Rights Foundation. <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crf-usa.org\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>www.crf-usa.org<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><span>. Has a wealth of information on how to teach about religion in the public school classroom.
